We are just 5 days away from the most traditional Jiu-Jitsu tournament in the US the Pan American Jiu-Jitsu Championship, to be held from March 28th to 30th in Carson, CA. The first time this tournament took place was in 1995,  in Irvine, Southern California. About a hundred competitors, including my self,  fought that year, but, from then on, the competition happened every single year, and grew in such a way that about 2,000 athletes are expected to compete this week. Within these 14 years, Hawaii, Florida and California held the event, which played a major role in the way BJJ competition developed in the US. This year’s edition promises a big, exciting struggle for the overall academy title.

This week the training sessions will be awesome with focus on sparring session and conditioning drills.

 Athletes from all over the world are coming to compete and Gracie Barra Santa Barbara will be there to  help defend Gracie Barra last year’s first place overall academy title.

The 2008 Pan American Championship will take place this friday, saturday and sunday in the California State Dominguez Hills, Carson, CA

This weekend Gracie Barra Santa Barbara put on it’s last Conditioning Class before the 2008 Pan American Championship

Gracie Barra Santa Barbara is offering this sunday from 10 to 11:30 am a conditioning class for it’s students.  The class is part of the team’s preparation for the upcoming Panamerican Jiu-Jitsu Championships and is open to all members who wants to participate.

The conditioning class will enphasize stretching, cardio exercises, strength training, plyometric workout &  live sparring.

The Solvang community now has its own Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu school. This project is a result of a join effort of the Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu-Team Rodrigo Clark and the Solvang Sheriff’s Department.

The new school will offer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction for individuals, families, and Law Enforcement Officers and is being developed to become a reference for physical education, character development, self-defense, and world class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training at the communities of Solvang, Santa Ynez, Buellton, Lompoc and Santa Maria.

The school will have its grand opening soon and is already attracting a lot of people from the region.

The new school will be an additional training facility to all Rodrigo Clark Jiu-Jitsu students and a reference for all the people living in the Valley who are interested in a healthy life style and Martial Arts training.

Tuesday, March 18th, we will be filming a TV commercial at the new Solvang school, from 5 to 7 pm and all the students, friends and family are welcome to participate. The commercial will be shown for 6 months on spike TV during all UFC shows, including: TheUltimate Fighter, UFC Unleashed, UFC Fight Live,  UFC Friday Fight, UFC Countdown, UFC All Access, plus WEC-Word Extreme Cagefighting (VS Channel) , Human Weapon (Discovery Channel), Fight Quest (The History Channel) and at the new Spike TV show D.E.A.

The 2008 Pan American Championship is around the corner, and now is time to get ready for it!

Gracie Barra Santa Barbara is now offering conditioning classes exclusively for those students competing at the Pan Ams.

Classes will be held on Sundays, from 10-11:30 am and will include: streaching, cardio exercices, strength training, plyometric workout &  live sparring!

Make sure you have your Gi, Shorts, rashguard and a towel!
