Last day to sign up with discount
Set to take place between the 5th and 8th of June, in the California State University Long Beach stadium, the 2008 Jiu-Jitsu World Championship is already taking shape. This is because the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) has already made a list available with those who have already signed up for the style’s biggest tournament on line.
It is worth noting that those to sign up before midnight tonight, May 18th, will pay only US$ 107. Now, or those to register between tomorrow (the 19th) and June 27th (deadline) will pay US$ 122.

Roger Gracie didn’t even have to break a sweat the second MMA fight of his career. At the beginning of his combat against Yuki Kondo, this Sunday, May 18, in Tokyo, Japan, for Sengoku II, Gracie dominated his adversary and got to a rear-naked choke that granted him the win.

Gracie Barra Invitational Tournament & Grand Opening Ceremony
Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu Academy of Solvang is honored to announce the 1st GB Solvang Invitational BJJ Tournament.
The tournament is one of many activities that will take place on Saturday, may 17th, during the grand opening ceremony of out newest location in the Valley.

Tournament Rules
All competitors must wear clean jiu-jitsu uniform.
Any competitor who displays unsportsmanlike conduct before, during, or after the match, will be disqualified and forfeit the registration fee.
Any competitor who deliberately tries to hurt the opponent, (including slamming them while in their guard) will de disqualified.
The competitor with the most points or a submission will be deemed the winner
if no points are scored it is up to the referee to make that decision.
All points will be demonstrated at the beginning of the tournament.
No bent knee locks, bicep locks, cervical guillotine, or heel hooks will be permitted. Use of these techniques is grounds for disqualification.
All other “normal” jiu-jitsu locks and chokes will be permitted.
The team with the highest score at the end of the tournament will win the
GB Solvang Invitational Tournament.

1:00 pm - Kids, Juniors & White Belts
2:00 pm - Blue Belts
3:00 pm - Purple & brown belts super fights
4:00 pm - Brazilian BBQ Party!!!
Weight-in & Registration Fee
All competitors must sign a waiver and registration form.
The weigh-in is on Saturday, May 17, at 12:00 pm
All competitors must weight-in with their Gi on.
Registration fee should be paid at the door.

Spectators - FREE

Kids, juniors & Women - All the matches will be the closest weight, age and belt
Men’s division (18 & up)
Feather - up to 139 lb.
Light - 140 to 159.9 lb.
Middle - 160 to 179 lb.
Light Heavy - 180 to 199.9 lb.
Open - 200 and up

During our grand opening event, we will present a Mixed Martial Arts exhibition,to be followed by our friendly BJJ competition. Gracie Barra Solvang will also be offering FREE Jiu-Jitsu group lessons for men, woman, and children at this event. During class instruction participants will learn basic BJJ techniques, such as: chokes, joint locks, throws, brake falls, escapes from dominant positions and control holds.
Free snack and drinks will be served. All Gracie Barra members, Jiu-Jitsu practitioners from invited schools, friends, family and anyone interested in checking out our school are welcome!
As usual, after the ceremony we will close our activities offering a traditional Brazilian BBQ!!!
