TOURNAMENT NEWS - Results & PanAm Championship Schedule

Gracie Barra Affiliation Tournament Results
Three athletes from GBSB participated in the recent Tournament, and overall we had a good result. Eduardo “Little Clean” Borges got 2nd place on the middle weight white belt after submitting his first 3 opponents via armbar, rear naked choke, and a beautiful triangle. He lost the final by points but showed a lot of courage and determination. He fought one division above - opponents were 12 pounds over his weight. Nick Dumong and Raul Uribe also fought and won one match each. This was a great chance for students to test their skills before the PanAm Championship, March 27, 28, & 29 (see more information below).

Don’t miss this great opportunity to learn from one of the top MMA fighters in the Gracie Family. For Daniel Gracie, fighting is not only a way of life, it is life. He is a proud member of the Gracie Family, a family whose name is synonymous with excellence, drive, ambition, competition and success. Daniel is proud to represent the family and he is currently training for his next MMA fight. He will be fighting at 205 pounds, in the Light Heavyweight Division.

In Brasil, Daniel trained under Carlos Gracie Jr., son of Grand Master Carlos Gracie, and received his Black Belt from him at the age of twenty-three. Daniel began competing in various city and state Jiu-Jitsu tournaments in 1982. In 1995, Daniel moved to Sao Paulo with his cousin Ryan Gracie to spread the Jiu-Jitsu legacy in that state. Together, Ryan and Daniel ran the most sucessfull BJJ school in that state, training rising BJJ starts such as IFL champion Fabio Leopoldo.

In Japan, the Gracie Family were regular competitors in the Pride events. Beginning in 2002 Daniel fought in four Pride events as a Heavyweight, winning three times. Facing Takashi Sugiura, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kazuhiro Nakamura and Wataru Sakata - Daniel fought against some of Japan’s top competitors, each time in an arena with well over 60,000 fans.

In The United States, Daniel has fought once in The Gracie Fight Championship, an event designed by Relson Gracie, and three times in the International Fight League as a Pitbull. His competitors included top fighters such Wes Sims and Allan Goes in the IFL. Daniel currently teaches at Renzo Gracie Academy in New York.
